Rune master is something like this:

Rune Master sounds like a Rune-Keeper from Lord of the Rings Online. You can do a little bit of everything sort of like a Red Mage from Final Fantasy XI. Would be a nice class to have in the game.

Can someone explain the difference between 'rune master' and a mage is? I've only played to games where 'runes' were required to become a mage, therefore you needed to be a rune master in the first instance.

I'm guessing thats not true for this, and now confuzzled :/

There is still long time before rune master will be in the game.

In short it is a caster class which use rune stones. Rune stone can be lay on the ground to effect area around for buff, debufs, some runes can "attack" enemies causing damage to enemy in range etc. For example can slow down enemy in range or increase armor of friends, can do some healing or boost mana regen.

Is this not a characteristic of a mage? Or is the difference that a mage would need a certain level in order to gain these spells, while a rune master needs a certain level to create certain runes?

It's kinda like a Jack of all trades type using runes to cast the buff, debuff, or attack in a certain area where the rune was placed. This class is still under construction and not a lot is set in stone, but it reminds me of a bard. As in can use a bit of everything but master of none. Still very usefully to have in a group.

So basically for me to understand it's somewhat like a Shaman from WoW?

Rune stones instead of totems?

That's what i was thinking. I hope that this class would be more reliant on the runes though.
Their main spells would not be casting spells as much as runes that are tactically placed. Becoming more of a defensive player. Give alot of speed boosts to them and this could be an actual/creative class. Shaman's IMO weren't really "reliant" on what made their class truly unique.

If the runes are more creative and the runemaster (RM) could say summon a physical barrier or wall of flame rune, that would make them a more interesting class for me.
The DPS RM could have a trait path where they would have to get up close to place the runes where they could do heavy burst damage but not exactly a lot of melee. Long Range DPS caster's would summon runes from afar and would put out a more steady stream of damage but would not risk getting hurt like the up close RM.
Also RM's could have to channel themselves through a rune and make it more powerful or give it a bonus effect but would have to stay stationary and w/in a certain range. RM's could have certain spells that would have to bounce off of their runes to heal/damage and the # of runes around the target would increase the spells power depending on the spell and rune.
Shaman's in WoW could have been a truly more creative class and WoW didnt do enough with them. Hopefully WoM will be different.

When the time comes, I'm sure we can have the entire community helping veraxon and making the suggestions for the new classes.
