Cloud Virtualization technology (Gaming)

Postby igloo » Sun Apr 29, 2012 12:53 pm

There's some buzz around the business community about Cloud virtualization where they do cloud-compression and App-Streaming.

The technology is relatively new (Feb 2012) and was shown to businesses to run their traditional PC apps on mobile tablets using x86 to ARM recompilation and Windows API translation to iOS and Android on ARM. There is DirectX conversion to OpenGL binary translation.

It is aimed for business apps to move to Tablets without re-coding and without requiring Remote Desktop or Streaming facilities or VNC facilities.

The SDK offers zoom, touch, pinch, swipe, virtual joystick and configurable buttons. I hope this becomes main-stream technology.

I managed to run several PC games on my iPad with it.

Hi,

This was an unofficial build of a UbiSoft game.
You won't be able to try it because I am not allowed to redistribute my own version of that licensed game.

I tried other games, like WoW and GuildWars. They work well.
I had problems with mapping WoW commands to iOS touch -
because they map right-click as command-operation and left-click to select something and so I mapped it to tap and double-tap which was annoying.

I hope the Unity Engine uses this Cloud-virtualization technology and adopts it soon.

If they do adopt it - you would see instantaneous 4 versions (Mac, PC, Android and iOS) with immediate distribution of all versions without loss of fidelity and GUI resolution, and no need to put up with this graphics rescaling, no need to make 3 different versions of the same game.
